Fat, not carbs, is directly linked to weight gain

  • The research looked at mice on 30 different types of diets. The result of the research found that the mice on a high-fat, low-carb diet gained the most weight, while mice on a low-carb diet actually gained no weight at all.
  • The findings suggest that trendy high-fat, low-carb diets might not be effective at helping you lose weight — but is that actually true?If you're trying to lose weight, you've probably jumped on the low-carb diet bandwagon at one point or another. Many weight loss gurus have claimed that cutting down carbs and increasing your fat intake can help you lose weight. This has contributed to the increasing popularity of diets like the keto diet, which suggests that if you stick to a high-fat, low-carb diet, your body will go into ketosis, thus prompting you to shed more pounds. But a new study suggests this might not be the case.
The study which was published this month in Cell Metabolism, from the University of Aberdeen and the Chinese Academy of Sciences found that mice who ate high-fat diets gained more weight over a three-month period than mice who ate high-carbohydrate diets. Surprisingly, the mice on high-carbohydrate diets did not gain weight at all.
According to the researchers, eating fat is the only thing that made mice gain weight.

5 high calorie foods that can make you lose weight

man drinking milk from carton
Full-fat milk isn't as bad for you as people once thought.
For much of the 20th century, low-calorie and low-fat diets were touted as the best method for weight loss.
But in reality, counting calories isn't always the best way to lose weight. According to the Independent, many foods marketed as low-calorie can be unsatisfying, making it difficult to maintain a strict low-calorie lifestyle. Not to mention, many foods marketed as low-calorie options are devoid of nutrition and unhealthy in the long run.
Foods with more calories aren't necessarily unhealthy — some of them are so high in calories because they contain nutrients. They're also often more filling, so adding some high-calorie health foods into your diet might keep you from snacking.
The following foods are relatively high in calories, and may have even been shunned by weight loss advocates in the past — but they could actually aid weight loss.
Keep in mind, though, that not all high-calorie foods are created equal. The foods on this list are rarely overeaten for a reason: they're largely unprocessed and incredibly filling. The same can't be said for a high-calorie donut or cheeseburger so you should still enjoy those sparingly.

Egg yolks don't deserve their bad reputation.

Don't disregard the yolks.
Conventional wisdom held that because egg yolks contained much of the fat and cholesterol content of the egg, they were the enemy of dieters everywhere.
Today, we've realized that while the yolk, according to the USDA, is the most caloric part of the egg (it has 55 calories compared to the white's 17), that's because it's the part of the egg that holds all the nutrition.
Egg yolks contain vitamin B12, phosphorus, iron, folate, and lutein. Some of these vitamins and minerals are hard to find in other foods, making the egg yolk a staple of a healthy diet.
For weight loss purposes, the egg is handy because of its high fat and protein counts. These compounds make eggs more filling than many other foods with similar amounts of fat and protein. Plus, according to the USDA, one egg has only 0.56 grams of sugar, meaning eggs are unlikely to spike your insulin and cause you to become hungry later on.
And before you insist that eggs belong on a bad-food list because of their fat and cholesterol content, here's some good news: Dr. Joseph Mercolatold HuffPost that cholesterol and fat have been unfairly demonized for years. The truth about dietary cholesterol's effect on cholesterol in the blood is much more complicated than previously believed.

Avocados are a healthy, filling snack.

The fruit can be used to make any meal filling.
It's hard to believe that millennials' favorite brunch staple was once placed on the "avoid" lists of so many diets. According to the USDA, avocados are quite highly caloric and high-fat for a plant-based food, which turned many nutritionists off. But their low-sugar, high-fat and high-protein breakdown makes them a great diet food.
According to Women's Health Magazine, avocados have high levels of potassium, which may help reduce bloating. Their high-fat content makes them super filling. Plus, their monounsaturated fat content makes them a vital tool in combating heart disease and bad cholesterol, according toMayo Clinic.

Oils and butter are filling and satisfying, in moderation.

Just be sure to eat it in moderation.
Oils and butter have been demonized for decades, and some of their detractors might have a point: foods that are fried in oil could increase risks of diabetes, heart disease, weight gain, and more, according to research done by Harvard University.
There are few studies on oil's direct connection to weight loss, but anecdotal evidence proves that many people are finding success by adding butter and oil to their meals, most notoriously to their coffee. But a small amount of grass-fed butter or unheated oil can add fat to your meal can make your meal much more satisfying.
One study shows that if you're going to add a butter or oil to your diet, your best bet might be medium-chain triglyceride oil. MCT oil was found to be more satisfying than coconut oil or vegetable oil, and study respondents reported feeling full for three hours longer after consuming MCT oil.

Eat full-fat dairy to lose weight.

If you're going to eat dairy, eat it full-fat.
Dairy might not be for everyone. Some scientists say it might not even be necessary for a balanced diet, while others have found that a diet rich in cheeses can help you lose weight, as reported by The Telegraph. You might not be down with dairy, but if you are going to eat it and hope to lose weight, you should probably make it full-fat.
While skim milk used to be the preferred dairy product of dieters, it's now been found that consumption of full-fat dairy is actually linked to a lower rate of obesity, according to NPR. Low-fat milk has been linked not only to weight stagnation butweight gain. If that's not a good reason to swap your sad zero-fat string cheese for some sharp, full-fat cheddar, I don't know what is.

Nuts will fill you up quickly.

Perhaps it's the crunch that keeps you from eating too much.
Nuts are another wholesome, naturally occurring food that was considered fattening for years. They pack an insane caloric punch in terms of mass, but they're super filling.
This isn't only due to their protein, fat, and fiber content, but could also be because of their texture. Nutrition scientist Richard Mattes speculated to the New York Times that they might be especially filling because of how crunchy they are. That satisfying crunch could send signals to your brain that you're full, he said.
As a bonus, they have been linked to a lower risk of heart disease.

What happens when obese women lose weight before conception?

What happens when obese women lose weight before conception?

In a bid to determine how weight loss prior to pregnancy affects maternal and fetal health a new Michigan Medicine clinical trial are now enrolling participants.
It has already been established that a woman’s overall health before conception can impact her pregnancy and the health of her fetus.
“Half of all pregnant women in the United States are overweight or obese, increasing the mother’s risk of pregnancy complications, including gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, fetal anomalies, premature birth, C-section and fetal demise,” says Amy Rothberg, M.D., Ph.D., associate professor of endocrinology at Michigan Medicine.
“The infants of these mothers also carry a lifetime risk of obesity, diabetes and heart disease.”
What Rothberg is now doing is leading a new clinical trial to investigate what happens when obese women lose weight before conception.
“Evidence proposes that the origins of obesity start at the earliest stages of human development: while still in the womb and during early infancy,” Rothberg says.
“A mother’s nutritional, metabolic and behavioral status, such as pre-pregnancy weight and diet before and during pregnancy, may permanently influence the metabolic, endocrine and immune function of the fetus well into adulthood.”

Khloe Kardashian said she's lost 33 pounds since giving birth to her daughter True

Beautiful celebrity, Khloe Kardashian revealed on her app that she's lost 33 pounds since giving birth to her daughter True just three months ago. She said she was shocked to learn that she had lost that much weight that quickly.
The 34 years old reality TV star, credits her weight loss to breastfeeding, an active lifestyle, and a low-carb diet.

According to Khloe :
“After I had True, I didn’t put any pressure on myself to lose the baby weight. I just wanted to get back to my regular routine from before I got pregnant, which was working out five to six times a week,” she said in a recent post on her app.
Khloe said she was "shocked" by the new number on the scale. “I’m chalking this up to the combination of breastfeeding and being very active during and after my pregnancy,” she added.

“I’m currently on a low-carb diet that my nutritionist, Dr. Goglia, gave me,” she wrote on her app early last month, according to People. “It has lots of protein, so I’m able to go all out at the gym, but the best part is that I’m never hungry because I’m always eating!"
Khloe said she works hard at not comparing herself with other moms: “I never compare myself to other women as every woman has their own journey," she said. "We also all have different priorities in our day-to-day lives."
“Staying healthy and active is something that it’s very important to me, she said. "Exercise is something I’ve always used to maintain my sanity and relieve stress. And now that I have a baby, I still want to keep something that’s my time, my space, something that I’m doing for myself."

Women who work 45 hours or more each week increase their risk of diabetes

New research has suggested that women who work 45 hours or more each week may be increasing their risk of diabetes. However, men who work the same number of hours, are not affected.
Meanwhile most prior research that has suggested a link between a long work week and an increased risk of diabetes focused on men.
Interestingly, this recent research seems to find the opposite effect in males: the longer the work week, the lower the incidence of diabetes.
For women who work 45 hours per week or more, though, their risk was considerably higher.

The authors of the new study, which was published in BMJ Open Diabetes Research and Care, looked at data from the 2003 Canadian Community Health survey, which included respondents aged 35–74.
They also looked at the Ontario Health Insurance Plan database for physician services, as well as the Canadian Institute for Health Information Discharge Abstract Database for hospital admissions.

In all, over 7,000 Canadian employees were included in the research. As well as looking at hours worked, the researchers also included other factors in their analysis, such as: sex, marital status, parenthood, ethnicity, place of birth, place of residence, long-term health conditions, lifestyle, weight, and body mass index (BMI).
The study authors also considered unique workplace factors, such as shift work and the type of job the respondents did — for instance, whether it was predominantly active or sedentary.
Overall, the risk of diabetes was "only slightly reduced" when factors such as smoking and alcohol levels were considered.
Diabetes will be reduced in women if they stop working long hours a week.

4 reasons why bread is not one of the healthy foods to consume daily

Article Image
Slices of bread. Avoid bread with too much salt.[Photo/Businessplan]

Eating several slices of bread is not what is bad what is bad is eating it everyday. This is because bread is not exactly one of the healthy foods to consume.

4 reasons why bread is not one of the healthy foods to consume daily
1. It does not have nutrients.
Bread lack essential nutrients. There is nothing important that we are getting from eating bread.
Especially consuming white bread that lacks fiber due to the absence of the whole grain. Bread baked out of whole grains should be something we opt for.
2. Contains too much salt.
Salt is one of the ingredients for making bread. Most bread varieties that we buy from the supermarket contain a lot of salt. Consuming lesser bread ensures that the level of sodium in your body is significantly reduced. One can opt to bake bread at home without adding too much salt.
3. Makes you gain weight. You should be careful with eating bread daily if you are watching weight. Eating bread in moderation is important. It contains carbs, salt, refined sugar and preservatives that can make you add pounds. Always take time to ensure that the bread you are eating is healthy.
4. Will always make you feel hungry. Slice bread can make you feel hungry since most bread we eat lacks nutrients and slice bread is not thick and strong like normal bread . Basically bread is not a wholesome filling meal.

6 Amazing Benefits of Chewing Neem Regularly

6 Amazing Benefits of Chewing Neem Regularly
HighlightsNeem holds an immense traditional importance in the culture of IndiaNeem leaf is loaded with multiple health benefitsNeem leaf is replete with antibacterial and anti-inflammatory propertiesNeem holds an immense importance in the traditional culture of India. We have all heard our parents and grandparents re-iterate the advantages of neem time and again. The neem tree is said to have over 130 different biologically active compounds. Each part of the tree, be it the leaves, twigs, bark, seeds, root, fruits or flowers, is used in traditional Ayurvedic treatment for multiple issues ranging from inflammation, fever infection, skin disease and dental disorders. Replete with antibacterial, anticarcinogenic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiseptic, antimalarial, anti-microbial and anti-viral properties, neem is a remedy for almost all your health concerns. People still sprinkle a bunch of leaves near the bed of a flu-infected patient,or hang a cluster of them over their doors in a belief that the air that crosses the neem leaf is filtered of disease causing bacteria and virus.
Neem leaf is loaded with numerous health and skin benefits. Consuming it in the form of a paste, in tea or just chewing a twig freshly plucked from the tree has reaped multiple benefits for people since time immemorial. For over two thousand years neem leaf has basked in the reputation of being magical, particularly in southeast Asia, and it is slowly gaining recognition in the West too.
Ayurveda for generations has professed the advantages of consuming neem leaves. Both bitter and pungent in taste, neem leaf, according to Ayurveda, has been especially significant in balancing our Vata or neuromuscular disorders. It further removes toxins from our blood and enhances activity of free radical scavenging. Chewing neem leaves can also nourish our hair and treat headaches.
Here is a list of benefits you can gain out of chewing a handful of these leaves -
1. Skin Benefits
In the book 'Ayurveda For All: Effective Ayurvedic Self Cure for Common and Chronic Ailments', Murli Manohar lists how consuming neem leaves can remove toxins, and purify blood to give us a clearer skin. Neem leaves have strong anti-bacterial properties which work wonders on infections, burns and any kind of skin problems. While a paste of neem leaves and turmeric can be used for treating insect bites, itching, eczema, ring worms and some mild skin diseases, chewing the leaves can also give you a nourished, purified and radiant skin. If the bitterness bothers you, mix them with honey and have or make a solution by boiling neem leaves and drink the strained water. It can also treat all your acne and dark spot problems.
2. Good for Hair Nourishing
Chewing neem leaves can prove beneficial for your hair too, with its high levels of antioxidants. Neem protects the scalp from oxidative stress caused by the free radicals. Neem leaves also stimulate healthy cell division and support hair follicle growth around your scalp region. Washing your hair with boiled neem water has been a traditional method to combat dandruff and undernourished, damaged hair. Neem leaves have antifungal properties, which work effectively against a fungi called Malassezia, which causes dandruff. Its immense healing properties has earned neem the name of scalp saviour too.
3. Good For Your Eyes
Ayurveda also points out how neem leaves can be good for the eyes. Chewing neem can improve your vision. To treat any kind of irritation, tiredness or redness you can also boil some neem leaves, let the water cool completely and then use it to wash your eyes.
4. Boosting Immune System
Rich in antimicrobial, antiviral and antioxidant properties, chewing neem leaves can prove very effective in strengthening your immune system. Murli Manohar talks about how these leaves can prevent the damage caused by free radicals, thereby bringing down the risk of many diseases ranging from common flu to cancer or heart disease. Neem leaves destroy bacteria and further stimulates the immune system.
5. Improves Digestion
Neem leaves are excellent for your liver, which automatically enhances your digestion. Apart from this, consuming neem on a daily basis also destroys excess bacteria in the intestinal region and cleanses your colon, further facilitating a smoother digestion.
6. Oral Health
As Indians we are very well versed with the idea of men and women stepping out in their balconies to brush their teeth with neem twigs. Even chewing neem leaves can bring forth multiple dental and oral benefits. Neem being antibacterial in nature fights germs and maintains the alkaline level of our saliva. It is also effective against plaque formation and gum infections. Chewing neem can also lend you a shiny set of pearly white teeth.
However. here is a word of caution: pregnant women, especially in the fourth or fifth month of their pregnancy, should not have neem. Consumption of neem produces immense internal heat, which could prove hazardous to the foetus. Even when a woman is planning to conceive she should steer clear from neem leaves, as the excess heat would begin to treat the foetus as a foreign body. This excess body heat can be brought down with adequate intake of water or a cooling drink like ash gourd juice.

Scientists are close snd cautious over finding a safe and effective vaccine for HIV

As a result of previous failure, Scientists are now "cautiously optimistic" they're one step closer after a trial of a new vaccine has shown promising results in humans and monkeys.

According to a study published in The Lancet, the test treatment was found to produce an anti-HIV immune response in healthy adults, and protect monkeys against infection from a virus similar to HIV.

According to lead researcher Dan Barouch from Harvard Medical School, the study was an "important milestone" in HIV research, but that the results should be interpreted with caution.
"We're happy with the current results … but we can't assume that this vaccine will work in humans," Professor Barouch told The Health Report.

To test that theory in order to be sure maybe it will work in human, researchers will now take the vaccine to 2,600 women in southern Africa who are at risk of acquiring HIV.
Almost 37 million people worldwide are living with HIV, with an estimated 1.8 million new cases every year.

Understanding Obesity-Related Cardiovascular Disease

Obesity is a major risk factor for diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular disease. The societal cost of obesity is keeping pace with the growing scope of the epidemic, estimated to account for ≈17% of all US health expenditures by 2030.1 The clinical burden of obesity-related cardiovascular disease is profound; recent data suggest that severe obesity (body mass index >35 kg/m2) is associated with nearly a 4-fold increased risk of incident heart failure and an ≈2-fold increased risk of incident coronary heart disease and stroke.2 Given the strong associations between obesity and hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and dyslipidemia, it is understandable that much of the obesity-related coronary heart disease risk is attributable to concurrent traditional risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and dyslipidemia. However, data suggest a persistent risk association between obesity and coronary heart disease that is not explained by conventional risk factors, thereby spawning extensive investigations to identify the culprit mechanisms.3 Over the past several decades, the research focus has shifted to the adipose tissues themselves, and more specifically the adipocyte, as a key link between obesity and cardiovascular disease risk.
Adipose tissue functions primarily as a storage depot for excess calories.

Aspirin may help reduce effects of Alzheimer's disease

Daily low doses of aspirin may help reduce the effects of Alzheimer's disease and protect memory, according to a new study.
Researchers at Rush University Medical Center showed that aspirin decreases plaques in the brain that are leading mechanisms in dementia and memory loss. The team published results of their study in the July issue of The Journal of Neuroscience.
"The results of our study identifies a possible new role for one of the most widely used, common, over-the-counter medications in the world," said Kalipada Pahan, chair of neurology and professor of neurological sciences, biochemistry and pharmacology at Rush Medical College.

Did You Know That Your Semen Can Also Carry And Spread The Ebola Virus Too?

With a high fatality rate the Ebola virus has been identified as extremely ‘infectious’, as even getting infected by the tinniest amount of the infection can prove to be fatal. The virus has been labelled as deadly because there isn’t an exact cure for it.

Although, it can prove to be fatal if you're infected by the virus, it hasn’t proven to be very contagious as it can’t be transmitted through the air—at least up until now.

The virus can transmit itself through the bodily fluid of an other infected person or if you come into contact while infected animal while butchering it, since researchers believe the fruit bats are the natural hosts of this virus.

Hard-working women, go home earlier to avoid this disease

Here's a good reason for women to work less, ask for a raise or get their partners to pick up around the house more: If women work fewer hours, it'll lower their risk of diabetes, according to a study published Monday in the journal BMJ Open Diabetes Research & Care.
Air pollution linked to 3.2 million new diabetes cases in one year
Researchers looked at data from 7,065 Canadians who were tracked over 12 years. What they found was that women who consistently worked 45 hours or more a week had a 63% greater risk of diabetes compared with those who worked between 35 and 40 hours a week.

Researchers Continue to Develop Antivirals for Ebola, Zika, Other Infectious Diseases

In 2014 an outbreak of the hemorrhagic Ebola virus swept across six African countries and killed more than 11,300 people. Tom Frieden, the former director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, called the outbreak “the world’s first Ebola epidemic” that was “spiraling out of control.”
One of the fears at the time was that someone who was unknowingly affected with the disease would board an airplane and the virus would spread globally. And that fear became a reality with Thomas Eric Duncan of Liberia was visiting with family in Texas and was diagnosed with Ebola. He died from the illness, but not before the virus spread to two nurses who treated him at the hospital. Both nurses survived.
Craig Spencer, a physician with the organization Doctors Without Borders, returned to New York after treating Ebola patients in the country of Guinea and learned he had contracted the virus. Spencer survived but his case caused significant panic because he had visited numerous public areas across New York before he was diagnosed.
Those Ebola cases, as well as cases of other significantly lethal viral outbreaks that have occurred since, have spurred researchers to focus on the development of antivirals that can treat the illnesses. Companies are working to develop vaccines for the likes of the mosquito-borne Zika virus, MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) and, of course, Ebola.

Excessive Iron in the Brain May Be a Factor in Alzheimer's Disease

A type of iron called magnetite may lead researchers down the path to a more effective treatment for Alzheimer’s disease.
Magnetite is not usually found in the human brain, but researchers say the metal is present in the brains of people affected by Alzheimer’s.
The scientists say the magnetite is found in the abnormal protein clusters known as amyloid plaques that are symptomatic of this disease.
Understanding why they’re there could lead to more effective treatment.
According to the Alzheimer’s Association, almost 6 million people in the United States are living with the disease.

Doctors Without Borders to pull out of Congo as Ebola scare wanes

Doctors Without Borders will end its involvement in the international response to an outbreak of the Ebola virus in the heart of Africa later this month, a sign that public health officials believe the outbreak has been largely contained.
Doctors Without Borders, also called Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF), had been tasked with operating treatment facilities in four towns in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) where patients tested positive for the Ebola virus. The group cared for 38 patients, 24 of whom survived.
MSF began winding down its involvement in the Congolese outbreak late last month, handing over operation of Ebola wards in the towns of Itipo and Bikoro to Congo’s Ministry of Health. The group will finish building an Ebola ward at the largest hospital in Mbandaka, a city of more than a million residents that sits right on the Congo River. It will also dismantle an Ebola treatment center it had established on the outskirts of town.

The unsurmountable battle against deadly lung cancer

Unfortunately, lung cancer is one of the most aggressive cancers. Out of 100 patients, only 10 to 15 patients survive for five years upon diagnosis. Things look even bleaker for those diagnosed with stage four with only two out of 100 patients living up to five years.
Subang Jaya Medical Centre clinical oncologist Dr Matin Mellor says early diagnosis for lung cancer is difficult as there are no symptoms to indicate the presence of the disease.
Every time patients complain about coughing or chest pain, they almost always co-relate with an advanced stage of the disease. Some of the cases are diagnosed incidentally when patients come in with a different health issue.
“It is difficult to detect it early because the lungs have a big capacity. There are two lungs, so if there is any issue, there will not be any symptoms. Even if half of the lung is destroyed, you can still function normally.
“It is only when the tumour grows to a certain size or reaches a critical level that the symptoms manifest persistently, something you can no longer ignore. If the cancer blocks the main function of the lungs, then you may have early symptoms such as a cough.
“But if it is peripheral, you may not have any symptoms. Only when it grows more central will you get the symptoms. But by then the cancer will have moved to an advanced stage.”

New project funded to study Alzheimer's disease

Researchers from Leiden University will develop a new approach to study the biomarkers of Alzeimer’s disease. This approach focusses on the molecular messengers of the cells. The project, led by Thomas Hankemeier and coordinated by Yuliya Shakalisava (Leiden Academic Centre for Drug Research, LACDR), received a funding of 800.000 euros from EuroNanoMed.

Messengers from the brain

The project is called EXIT, with stands for EXosomes Isolation Tool. It will develop a novel analytical device to investigate the molecular messengers from the brain (exosomes) in samples from patients with Alzheimer’s disease. Exosomes are nanosized membranous vesicles which recently appeared to play an important role in the remote communication between cells. Furthermore, it was found exosomes are able to pass the blood-brain barrier. Exosomes carry various proteins, RNA and metabolites and are present in all body fluids. This makes them a promising resource for diagnostic and etiologic research.

Novel device

Together with SINTEF AS, a Norwegian nanotechnology research institute, the researchers of LACDR will develop a novel nanofluidic concentration device. This device will allow to concentrate and separate exosomes from blood and cerebrospinal fluid.  Exosome research is a new and very rapidly developing area. Industrial partner HansaBioMed (Estonia) will bring in its invaluable expertise about this area to the project. Finally, an analytical platform will be set up with the two medical partners: Erasmus MC (the Netherlands) and FundaciĆ³ ACE (Spain). This platform will be used to analyse samples of blood and cerebrospinal fluid investigate the metabolic, proteomic, immunological and transcriptional changes in the body caused by Alzheimer’s disease.

EuroNanoMed is a platform for funding agencies and ministries that are engaged with the application of nanotechnology to medicine and healthcare. Here national and regional funding programmes can join together with the goal of creating and funding collaborative research and innovation projects that convert research in nanotechnology into practical gains in medicine. EuroNanoMed supports multidisciplinary and translational research and innovation projects that cover: regenerative medicine, diagnostics and targeted delivery systems.

Survey Finds 'Scanxiety' Is Common Challenge for Lung Cancer Patients

-- Getting regular scans and imaging tests is a normal – and often frequent – occurrence for people living with lung cancer. However, the normalcy does not necessarily mitigate the anxiety surrounding the experience, according to Lung Cancer In America 2018, a national survey by Health Union, LLC of people impacted by the condition, including patients and caregivers.
Living with lung cancer is accompanied by a considerable level of anxiety, with 86 percent of respondents reporting at least a little bit of anxiety on any given day. However, what is often referred to as "scanxiety" – the anxiety, fear and worry associated with scans, specifically before the results are revealed – can exacerbate those feelings. Of those who experience scanxiety, three-quarters reported either "more" or "a lot more" anxiety around the time of scans than at other times.
The frequency of follow-up scans can also cause the scanxiety opportunities to pile up, with almost three-quarters of respondents getting scans either every three to four months or more frequently. Making matters worse, 57 percent said they need to wait two or more days to receive the results of their scans.
According to the American Cancer Society, lung cancer is the second most common cancer for both men and women in the U.S., as well as the nation's leading cause of death from cancer. Grim statistics surrounding lung cancer have the potential to increase worry and scanxiety.
Additionally, many patients are diagnosed at later stages due to symptoms often being mistaken for other conditions. For example, according to Lung Cancer In America 2018 survey respondents, 58 percent of patients with non-small cell lung cancer were diagnosed at stage III or IV.

Zimbabwean men are being encouraged to have atleast 21 ejaculation a month to beat killer prostate cancer

Zimbabwean men are being encouraged to have sex more often to beat killer disease cancer. The Cancer Association of Zimbabwe (CAZ) claims frequent ejaculation lowers prostate cancer risks that often attacks men, reports Daily Nation.
Hence CAZ is encouraging men in Zimbabwe to be sexually active and ensure they at least have 21 ejaculation in a month that will go a long way to help reduce the risk of one them contracting prostate cancer.
According to the body, its research showed that men who ejaculated 21 times a month had a 33% lower risk of contracting prostate cancer.
“Prostate cancers is one the rise and besides encouraging men to eat healthy, we now encourage them to be sexually active and at least have 21 ejaculation in a month as discovered by researchers. Twenty one ejaculation in a month can reduce the risk of prostate cancer by 33 percent as it may flush toxins out of the system,” read part of a statement from CAZ published by B-Metro.
The statement from CAZ also encouraged men who take alcohol to ensure they only drink three pints of beer (averagely three bottle of beers) in a week and those who smoke to stop the habit immediately to fight cancer.
“Research has also made it clear that mean should only drink three pints of beer in a week and women a glass of wine to reduce the risk of cancer,” it continued in part.
The body also cautioned on daily consumption of meat terming it as one of the major cause of cancer and urged its citizens to just eat meat that fills their hand palm in a week.
CAZ a however advised that the most effective way to curb cancer is by having diet programs, exercises and regular checkups.
According to the body, more people in Zimbabwe are now dying of cancer as compared to other diseases and infections namely tuberculosis and HIV.

Can the abortion pill treat advanced lung cancer?

Jerome Check firmly believes that mifepristone, better known as the abortion pill, can extend and improve the lives of terminally ill lung cancer patients who have run out of treatment options.
