Why Are Cats Fearful of Cucumbers?

Different people have given a couple of hypotheses concerning why cucumbers give cat a fear. However, there is no concrete answer to the reason why cats are fearful of cucumber.

The question came to light after videos of Pet owners who filmed themselves secretly placing cucumbers behind their unsuspecting cats are trending online. When the cats turn around, they are startled by the fruit and often leap back in fright.

One of the most reasonable reasons was given by Dr. Claudine Sievert, DVM, a Kansas-based veterinarian.

Claudine says cucumbers help cats to remember snakes. He said cucumbers seem to be like a snake, which is a predator that has been known to attacks and eat cats, so when cats see a stretched green item and believe it's a snake, they are scared and run from it.

The Veterinarian also said the sudden appearance of the cucumber frightens the cat. This is like freaking somebody by suddenly appearing behind them. So, when they turn around and unexpectedly see a cucumber there, it makes them bounce and become scared.

Claudine Sievert said cats are very mindful of everything around them, and assuming something moves abruptly or startlingly, they will respond to it with their eyes widen and their whole body will be in high alert.
