What is antiretroviral therapy?

Meaning of antiretroviral therapy

Antiretroviral therapy combines three or more drugs which stop the HIV virus from progressing. It was first used
in 1996.

It involves a combination of three or more drugs that stop the HIV virus from replicating and causing damage to the immune system.

More recent drugs are even more efficient and have fewer side effects.

The World Health Organization recommends that people go for HIV test and antiretroviral therapy should be started as soon as possible after diagnosis came out positive.
